The doors to the inn creaked open, and in stepped a young man with a face too handsome to be anything but trouble. On each of his arms clung a twin—two stunning girls with matching steps and expressions, clearly used to attention and undeserved privilege. The young man’s dual-colored eyes shimmered with a peculiar glint as his gaze swept across the room, pausing briefly—too briefly—on Xiao Wu. Whatever flicker passed through his mind vanished just as quickly, as though it had never been.

Dai Mubai had arrived.

He spotted Xiao Wu instantly—and his eyes lit up like a predator catching sight of rare prey. There was no need for pretense; his smirk spoke volumes.

Unbothered by the others, he strolled to the counter and tapped the bell lazily. “You must be new,” he said, looking the staffer up and down. “Don’t you know there’s always a room reserved for me?”

The young attendant blinked in confusion, then offered a cautious smile. “I’m sorry, but... may I ask who you are?”

Dai Mubai gave a dismissive snort. “Get your manager.”

His tone wasn’t loud, but there was something sharp in it—cold and commanding. The air shifted slightly, like the room had dropped a few degrees. The staffer shivered beneath that strange, oppressive gaze, bowed hastily, and scurried off to the back.

Before things could settle, Xiao Wu stepped forward with her hands on her hips, her braid swinging defiantly behind her. “We got here first. Why should we give the room to you?”

Without even turning his head, Dai Mubai answered coolly, “So what?”

“So what?” Xiao Wu’s eyes narrowed. “So you can get lost, that’s what!”

Finally, Dai Mubai turned to look at her. There was a chill in his stare, something slick and dangerous. But then, strangely, his lips curled—not in anger, but amusement.

“Well now,” he said with a slow nod. “It’s been a while since anyone’s dared talk to me like that. You’ve definitely caught my attention, little miss.”

His tone dripped with arrogance, the kind that came not from confidence but from a long history of getting his way. He was every bit the entitled heir his reputation suggested.

Just then, the flustered staffer returned with a middle-aged man in tow—no doubt the manager. The man wore a nervous smile that barely masked his desperation to keep the peace.

“Let’s all calm down, yes?” he said, bowing slightly. “No need for any trouble.”

Dai Mubai didn’t look at him. “Manager Wang,” he said with a drawl, “Your service is really slipping these days.”

Manager Wang wiped sweat from his brow. “No, no, young master Dai, please don’t say that. It’s the new hire’s fault. He’s only just started—didn’t know the rules. I’ll take care of your room right away.”

He turned apologetically to Xiao Wu and Qian Yu. “I’m truly sorry, but that room was pre-booked by young master Dai. If I could trouble you two to seek accommodation elsewhere...”

Xiao Wu’s nostrils flared. “We’re not leaving. Don’t think you can push us around just because we’re young.”

Dai Mubai’s grin turned nasty. “You can stay,” he said with a leer. “But he—” he nodded at Qian Yu, “—has to go.”

His gaze swept over Xiao Wu in a way that made her stomach churn. Though she was only twelve, her figure had matured early—and Dai Mubai’s stare was anything but subtle.

That was enough.

"You sick creep!" Xiao Wu snapped. “If you’re so eager for a beating, I’ll gladly oblige!”

She clenched her fists and took a step forward, but a gentle hand on her shoulder stopped her. Qian Yu stepped in between them, calm as a lake before a storm.

Dai Mubai. Of all people.

One of the most despicable men in the entire Douluo continent—and Qian Yu’s second most hated person, just after the so-called Grandmaster. To find him here, picking a fight like some drunken prince... it almost felt fated.

Qian Yu exhaled slowly, then looked Dai Mubai square in the eyes.

“There are two types of people I can’t stand,” he said softly. “One—those so full of themselves they think the world owes them something. Two—those who threaten me or my family.”

He took a step closer.

“You happen to be both.”

The words landed like stones in a silent pond. Even Dai Mubai's twin companions went still, their expressions frozen in surprise.

The crowd had started to gather. Everyone in Soto City knew Dai Mubai—his power, his prestige, his terrifying strength as a thirty-seventh-level Soul Master. He wasn’t someone you provoked lightly.

“Who is that kid? Is he insane?”

“Does he not know who Dai Mubai is?!”

“He’s dead meat…”

The whispers were already buzzing like flies, but Qian Yu remained still, serene as if none of it touched him.

Dai Mubai sneered. “Big words. Let’s see if you’ve got the strength to back them up.”

He clenched his fists, his lips curling with fury.

“Want to die that badly?”

With a flick of his wrist, he waved the girls aside and began to gather his power. Not all of it—just a taste. Enough pressure to crush a normal Soul Master’s will.

He released his soul energy, starting at level twenty. It should’ve been overwhelming for someone like Qian Yu, who looked barely older than a child. But Qian Yu didn’t even blink.

Dai Mubai frowned and pushed harder.

Twenty-eight... thirty... thirty-five... all the way to his full power—thirty-seven levels of brute force, radiating like a storm.

Still nothing.

Qian Yu stood there, serene as a mountain, unmoved by the oppressive force pressing down on him.

For the first time, Dai Mubai’s confidence cracked.

Humiliation flared in his chest. He’s not even sweating!

Fine then.

“White Tiger, possess!”

A blinding white light burst from his body. Bones cracked, muscles bulged, and the room itself seemed to grow smaller under the weight of his transformation.

Golden hair turned streaked with white and black, his pupils sharpened into slits, and four faint markings—three horizontal, one vertical—glowed on his forehead, forming the character —King.

His arms swelled to twice their normal size, and long, glinting claws erupted from his hands like knives. Even the air around him felt heavier, as though charged with electricity.

“You’ll pay for your arrogance, brat!”

He roared, “White Tiger Light Wave!” and charged like a thunderclap, fist blazing with deadly energy.

But Qian Yu didn’t move.

He didn’t flinch.

He just waited, calm as the eye of a hurricane.

And that was when everything changed.
